The Self Improvement Giveaway Event
For those who are not familiar with the concept of Giveaway Events, this method has been used for some time by Internet Marketers to market their products and build subscriber lists.
From what I have seen these types of event have been mainly geared towards the Internet Marketing (IM) Niche, until now.
Some events are well run, others not so good but essentially from my experience they all follow a similar format.
You either join as a contributor or a member or both and your ranking depends on several factors, whether you join as a paid member and how well you promote the event to other contributors and members.
Most events have two parts to them, one for contributors to submit gifts and adverts (which occurs prior to the event) and recruit Joint Venture Partners to do the same and another when the event starts to join and obtain free gifts.
I have participated in a few Giveaway events over the last few months, a common attribute amongst them is what you will get out of it normally depends on how well you promote the event and how many Joint Venture Partners and Normal Members you are able to recruit.
The Self Improvement Giveaway stands out from the others in my mind for two reasons:
- Firstly I know one of the people running this event, Gary Simpson who has a huge abundance of drive and determination so you can rest assured will have put a huge amount of effort into this, and expect the same from others around him – indeed I would describe him as like a dog with a bone, he won’t let go until he has seen this event a huge success.
- The second reason is that this event spans outside the traditional IM crowd, potentially bringing with it a whole new audience, after all thats why it is called the Self Improvement Giveway – it takes you outside the usual crowd of Internet Marketers – topics can therefore span anything from fitness, lifestyle, health and well being – as long as the product fits into the category of ‘self improvement’ then I don’t think it matters too much what it is.
So If you have any interest in
-
Lifestyle Self Improvement products
-
Participate in any activity associated with Self Improvement, sports, fitness, etc
-
Know anyone who is interested in these activities
-
Want to market your products through building mailing lists or just plain advertising
You can join now before the event as a contributor if you have something to give, advertise or sell, or you can join on 5 Jan as normal member.
To recap, for Marketers in the IM Niche I believe this stands out from the crowd knowing who is involved and for Marketers or Product Owners outside the IM Niche this is a fantastic chance to get into a different way of marketing your products or services.

I am glad you wrote something about Giveaways.
I have always been weary of blasting my list with giveaways and ad swaps and all of that.
What kind of results to you typically see from a giveaway event subscriber-wise?
Not huge due to lack of effort promoting. I agree with what you say about promoting to lists, but my strategy once I get more into this will be to send a quick email to my list pointing them to the blog post or page so they are not bombarded with links etc. I do have other methods of promtion, safe lists TEs etc but you really have to work hard to get any results.
Hi Peter,
I’m all set for this Giveaway and I was lucky enough to have my Traffic related eBook approved.
Hopefully the interest will still be there for traffic generation techniques, as it is a popular subject for anyone with a website.
Also, I’m sorry I’ve not visited you over here for a while mate, I will try and stop by more often.
All the best for 2010!
Paul
Hey Peter,
Great summing up of Mr Gary Simpson there.

Hi Peter,
Jeez this bit made me laugh mate…
Rrrrrr! Woof. Woof.
What made me laugh most is that I MUST actually BE like that. Somebody wrote almost the exact same words about me on a karate forum that I go to.
Very funny. Thanks.

This looks like an interesting proposition, Peter. I’ve looked at the site, and now I’m going to have to think about it for awhile before committing to it. But if I do, your link is the one I’ll be using.
