I’m thinking of producing a new free product – suggestions?
I am thinking of putting together a free ebook to help any budding internet marketer that doesn’t know where to start and has read many different things but they are either too long or too difficult to follow through.
I have been through the process myself and it is quite simple, but when I did start off I knew what needed to be done but I didn’t know where to begin so would be more than happy to share how I got up and running from my own perspective.
I was thinking along the lines of something explained in not too much detail, without the hype in laymans terms so anyone can understand – so perhaps the following headings into chapters would be a starter for 10 :
- Create a plan
- Open up a hosting account
- Select and register a domain name
- Arrange to get a blog setup
- Some basic instructions on how to Configure the blog (with links to other students) to how you want it to look with themes and plugins, etc
- Setup up an autoresponder account
- Setup up traffic
- Suggest some methods of driving traffic to your blog
- Start building a list – suggested resources
- Describe how affiliate marketing works and how you would set up your clickbank account and mask your affiliate links, etc
That is a basic summary of what I think, appreciate some feedback suggestions what you think would be valuable in such an excercise and whether it would provide any real value to a newbie starting out on such a journey.

Whilst the “how to” detail is really important, in my view it’s vital to give an overview and then stitch each section into that. Knowing where you are heading and why is crucial. Then, when you get the the “how to” it’s really helpful and meaningful.
Hope that helps.
Kind regards
Mike
Thanks Mike – I’ll send the link to you so you can see if i have covered all bases
Hi Peter,
In your report I’d really stress the importance of creating a plan and sticking to the plan.
I’ve found that it is so easy to get distracted by the offers that hit my inbox daily.
Every newbie needs to follow a number of basic tasks (which your report will provide) and they have to accept that these tasks need to be completed before any success is likely … and that they need to sty focused and motivated.
John
Thanks John
The plan is a prominent chapter in the book, 2nd one i think
It’s not a bad idea, but where in the plan will content come in? I mean, I read through all the comments, and no one even brought up the reality that any blog has to start off with some kind of content way before starting to market anything. Otherwise, who’s going to take it seriously, let alone stop by more than once?
Pretty much, after the first five ideas you started with, content has to come next, and, kind of like what Stefan recommended to you, I’d tell the person that they should write at least a month’s worth of posts, whether that’s 5, 10 or 30 posts, before thinking about selling a thing. This is for the total newbie; someone who’s written other blogs and knows how to add things to it to market will have a better understanding of how it all works.
Hi Mitch
Thanks for the feedback – hopefully I have covered all the bases you mention
Hey Peter
Sounds like you have a great plan for your report!
I think a step by step plan, explaining what people need to do in order to get started online would be great.
I’m sure you will attract many readers…
I am looking forward to it

Hi All,
As a newbie myself I think I can answer this for you.
The temptation by many Internet Marketeers when they get established is to try and write a “Guide For Newbies” too soon in their IM career. I think it happens when you get all excited about how well you are doing and you try to establish yourself as an authority. It could be a subconscious way of trying to unbrand yourself as a Newbie.
The best info products for newbies should contain a simple and quick way to earn some money. Because unfortunately if a Newbie fails to earn anything within a short period of time, they give up. Even a simple Adsense account and a website so they can watch the $0.02 flowing in
then you teach them to rinse and repeat.
For newbies short, simple and very “holding their hand” is a good way. I would say some ideas would be:-
1. How to setup and adsense account
2. How to setup a clickbank account
3. How to setup a CJ account
4. How to setup a EZarticles account
etc..
Simple and on one subject, use lots of pictures.
If the guide had too many subjects – setup website, setup adsense, traffic, link building, article writing etc.. the reader would not hold it all in.
You can then build up a series and chuck them out to your list once per week/month. Its then not information overload and you build trust because their getting guides for free.
Hi Skint IM
Many thanks for your feedback – I hope I have produced this in such a way that it is easy to follow and can be implemented a bit at a time so you are not all consumed with information. I have sent to the link to the book anyway.
Regards
Pete
I agree. A newbie has tons of things to learn…being there myself. It’s easy for someone who is established to use familiar jargon that means absolutely nothing to a newbiw…and in fact can be overwhelming and mind-boggling at times.
As a teacher, I feel that the use of graphic organizers is great for a visual learner to wrap their head around the ‘flow’ of how things are done and in what order. That makes it easier to show how and where steps are interconnected.
I also feel that going over the ‘jargon’ or vocabulary is also important.
Thanks again,
Yvonne
Hey Peter
A report such as this may be a good idea my man, the only advice I would give is not to cover too many points and topics all in one book.
You will find that newbies want to be led step by step through every point so they can learn it like we all have to so be careful that by covering all these points you dont end up with a HUGE report with 100′s of pages.
Maybe break down all your information into a few reports ? Just an idea
Sounds like your heading in the perfect direction for success my friend, great work !!
Speak soon

Ive settled on 30 odd pages but its split well enough into chapters to make it easy to follow then come back to
Hi Peter,
Many of the points raised above have mileage in them. Yes there are many reports out there written just to build a list, but to be honest if you have your own product to lead on to after the report, then all well and good.
As I mentioned in my email to you earlier and my plans moving forward, there are already similar products in the market place , but Gil makes a valid point that everyone is unique, everyone has their own writing style and you’ll attract visitors who can relate to you.
My ownly tip would be be to make this information available in bite size chunks so people can digest it easily, so may be a 7 part email series?? I remember subscribing to Shawn Casey and did exactly that. It was great information spread out over a month, easy to follow.
Just my thoughts, hope they help!
Take care, and talk soon
Sean
Way to go Pete! Your idea sounds pretty good. Most people trying to make money online initially do not know which path to follow, especially newbies. Those people may be spending way too much money but getting nowhere. If you can produce such a step by step product for people to follow and learn, I’m sure you will be receiving a tremendous amount of positive feedback from people all over. Good luck to your success!

Peter,
As with any market that’s viable, it can support more than 1 product of the same nature. Each has its own twist and so each is unique. In short, there’s room for your product and I think you should go for it.
I also think “fishing” for ideas is the way to go. As long as you give them correct information, even if only 1 person acts upon it and makes good use of it, I’d say you just made a positive impact on the world.
Specifically, I think video is the way to go. But I agree that you need to do what you preach so fill your blog with content as your market will come to this blog to find out more about you.
As for content, I’d put an emphasis on 3 things, and 3 things only – planning, list building and email marketing. That’s it. And make sure your market understands that’s these 3 and these 3 only that are relevant to making consistent money online.
If you’ll target the more advanced, you can always talk about how to setup a business, as opposed to seting up an online presence. The difference being what Rich Schefren has been talking about lately – creating a business you own and others operate on a daily basis or you working in your business thus making it another job for you.
Good luck with your prodcut and if you need anything else don’t hesitate to ask
- Gil
Hi Gil
I agree with what you said, content and building a blog has formed another part as i’m trying to give the whole picture – you need the blog with content to show credibility in my opinion
Sounds like it’ll be a great report.
Hi Peter,
This is a tricky one.
I think people just starting need to be led by the hand. The popularity of coaching courses for beginners just now shows that.
You can see in the forum that genuine beginners need every single step explained (and why not).
They are just not accepting statements like “just put up a blog” etc. They want all the details required to do that which I think would possibly come within your proposal.Could you do all that in a free ebook?
Opportunity for more than one product perhaps, or a backend with your ebook leading the way?
My thoughts Peter. Hope it helps.
Dave
Thanks Dave
Hopefully these are covered ok
Hi Peter,
I got your email.
I think you’re right about there being so many similar products out there, which is why I think that something that takes a slightly different look at things may be good.
But essentially, if you get a big response here, with lots of ideas – then you should structure the freebie to incorporate what people are asking for.
What might be a good idea, is putting a video on youtube, ask them to optin to your blog, so that when you’ve finished the freebie, you’ll automatically notify them of where to get it.
Hope this helps,
Andrew.
This is great idea. I believe if you made any great tutorial people must be benefited from that and you soon will be very popular man. And also before posting such I like to see more posts inside your blog.
Since your blog is just about one month old I would recommend you to wait a few more weeks or even months before releasing it. Sure you might have read up on a lot online but what does your visitors think of you when trying to create an eBook with the experience of a one month old blog? In this case I don’t know if you managed several blogs before but I think it will go better later on.
When it comes to your list. Are finding a niche, checking keywords and monitor your competition included into “create a plan”? I also think you should add a chapter on link building since this is one of the most important steps when trying to make money through a niche site.
This comment may sound a bit harsh, but I only want you to wait a short time to receive best possible response.
Stefan
Thanks for the feedback. What I had in mind was a reflection of where I had got to in the last 6 weeks, future volumes would then contain data explaining how I move foward once the blog is up and running. I feel that if you go into too much detail from the outset, people drop off and get lost in the detail, so a simple plan to start with could updated as the blog creator becomes more proficient.
Regards
Pete
great idea, needs to be from the stand point of someone fresh that is inundated with information and doesn’t know where to start
I think that way too many people are falling for the wrong products and deals. A ‘Internet Marketing for Dummies’ ebook like your’s could really save a lot of time for many people just starting out.
But comming back to the fact that it is going to be free: Does free mean I could download it somewhere, or would it require email-addreses?
I have to be honest: If I only see one more free marketing report that simply aims at collecting emails I’m going to freak out.
Hi Stefan
I’ve sent you the link so it is free – one of the reasons for needing the email address is that there will be follow ons from this in future, you need to be on a list to be able to receive them and you can always opt out if you wish.
Regards
Pete
Hey Peter,
I think that sounds like it would make a great short report, it would definitely give value and guidance to newcomers. I’d say go for it.
But I’ve yet to write my own product yet, so perhaps wait for more feedback first. But it sounds great to me.
Also if you get a moment, I’d love to hear your feedback on my latest blog post.
Take care mate,
Paul.
